Q: Why protest the Ohio Renaissance Festival? A: Because it is the right thing to do.
My father taught me to always stand for what was right and the universe would see that things unfolded as intended. Although my father was not a devoutly religious man, he had deeply felt spiritual beliefs which remained in tact until his last breath. One of those deeply felt spiritual beliefs was that when good and evil clash, good will generally prevail. It was this ideology which carried his heart during the second world war.
It was not an incredibly new concept. Knights of old held that God would strengthen the arm and sword of a just knight against one who was unjust. It may have even been a popular belief during my father’s generation. Today, the belief in right and wrong, good and evil, just and unjust seem lost. With that loss seems the idea that a man should be righteous, doing good where he can, and speaking against evil where it is seen. The heathen gods of my ancestors seem to have agreed with my father. For the All Father Odin did command:
“If evil though knowest, then proclaim it to all as evil, And make no friendship with foes. “ -Odin - Havamal (Loddfafnismal section)
Centuries later, one of the greatest minds my people would ever produce agreed with the teachings of Odin, giving us a modern quote:
“The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look and do nothing.” – Albert Eistein
