Help for Merchants

The 30 acre façade of a Victorian village at the Ohio Renaissance Festival is created with approximately 150 permanent structures. Approximately 130 of these permanent structures are owned by individual businesses which lease the property on which they sit from the Ohio Renaissance Festival Inc.

We feel many of these 130 independent business owners live in fear of the Ohio Renaissance Festival Inc. due to its owners owners rapid mood swings. Peter Carroll, owner of ORF Inc has gone from calm discussion to screaming so loud at merchants that spittle has landed on the merchant’s faces. These buildings are commonly purchased and sold for $10,000.00 - $20,000.00, a sum which is more than most of these working class small business owners can afford to loose due to the whims of an unconscionable land owner. Buildings have been taken without compensation after one of Peter Carroll’s apparent mood swings.

Unfortunately, most business owners believe their livelihood is at the whim of this man. We do not believe this is the case. We believe the leases provided by the Ohio Renaissance Festival have clauses which are clearly unconscionable. We believe the way these leases have been administered by Ohio Renaissance Festival staff have been unconscionable.

Assembled in this section are articles intended to help merchants and business owners properly address what we see as the abuses of Peter Carroll and the Ohio Renaissance Festival.
