The following is a paragraph from an email sent to us by a person who has reportedly been employed by ORF Inc. for 5 years. This seems to clearly indicate labor law / minimum wage violations.
"Now the compensation gets broke down like this. They start pay off at $10/ day and it goes up to $20 day the longer you are there. $20 is your maxed out rate unless you particpate in stunt show, stunt show people get $25/day. The reason for this is because stunt show people put in longer hours then everyone else. Peter pounds are granted with the longer youve been there the more you get. Depending on how many you are contracted to get you can get all or only half othem at the start of the season and then the second half at the second half of the season. This requires budgeting your pounds for food and drink. I worked at fair for 5 years and last year after budgeting my pounds I got to spend only 8 a day. Food prices there are about 5, depending on what you get. First years get about 4 a day. I made it through my first year at fair by packing my lunchs. Cast members also generally end up bringing bread, fruits, vegitables and cheese to carry around to snack on." Note: "Peter Pounds" are a form of script used like money in the stores and food booths at the Ohio Renaissance Festival. They are named after the owner, Peter Carroll (Slick Pete). Many thanks to the employees and former employees of the Ohio Renaissance Festival for contacting this protest and making these suspected violations known. With your continued help, these modern day Robber Barons will be called to task and forced to pay the prevailing wage or at at a very minimum the minimum wage. I strongly urge you to contact the Actors Guild and form a union chapter at ORF Inc.
