The Ohio Renaissance Festival boasts a 30 acre permanent village. Many of the 150 or so buildings on this site have multiple stories and rooms. Some have concrete floors, hot and cold running water, kitchens, and even showers. Others are powered by a tangled web of extension cords. None seem to have proper building or occupancy permits and the local fire and building authority doesn’t seem to care? Why?
Many of these buildings do not exist according to records kept with the County Auditor. The others, well they are listed as “Yard Items”. In a telephone conversation with the Deputy Auditor of Warren County, he assured us that county records are accurate. They are not, in fact they indicate that other than the Dungeon, there has been no new construction since 1996 (about 12 years ago).
We feel that as a result of these problems, the Ohio Renaissance Festival is allowed to continue to operate as a strip mall wile meeting almost no building, fire, or electrical code requirements. We believe this has created a clear and present danger to he public. We feel these buildings and the village itself are unsafe in any century.
