In an earlier entry, we told you about Katheryn Kereluik’s claims that the Ohio Renaissance Festival refused to sell her services because she and her partner appeared to be lesbians. In defending their actions, the Ohio Renaissance Festival has reportedly stated that they only provide legal weddings and despite the fact that Katheryn Kereluik’s wedding would have been perfectly legal, it would appear to have been the union of a same sex couple.

This might sound a bit nuts, but the truth is the State of Ohio does have some rather nutty laws. As stated before, Katheryn Kereluik’s fiancé had previously been male. The State of Ohio refuses to recognize sex change operations in many ways and thus leaves a loop hole by which same sex couples can be wed if one of them started life as a member of the opposite sex. Well, none of that matters anymore because it looks like the issue has anything to do with providing only legal weddings.

Recently we have received copies of email correspondents with Mollie Byers (ORF Group Sales and Weddings). The conversation makes it very, very clear that the Ohio Renaissance festival is more than willing to provide wedding packages, which do not include a legal wedding. Why then did they attempt to explain away what they did to Katheryn Kereluik by saying they only provide legal weddings?

Posing as a potential customer, Mollie Byers was contacted with an inquiry concerning the wedding of a fictitious Jewish couple. It was explained by the person posing as a bride to be, that a wedding was already planned for a synagogue at a later date to satisfy the needs of the family but that the bride to be would like a renaissance theme wedding. It was clearly stated to Mollie Byers that it could not be a legal wedding as a legal wedding was going to be performed in compliance with Jewish religious traditions.

Mollie Byers had no problem selling the wedding package. We conclude the excuses made over the matter involving Katheryn Kereluik’s claims are like most of the responses we have solicited from ORF Inc. They are complete lies.
